Debe Nelson, Christian Education Director
Sunday School
The
theme for February's Sunday School is Praying With
Jesus.
Our
focus scripture is Luke 11:1-13, with an emphasis on the
Lord's Prayer. Since our exploration of prayer in
the New Testament begins during Lent, we will also be
thinking about repentance and preparing ourselves for
Easter's Good News.
The text
tells us, "So I say to you, 'Ask, and it will be given
to you; search, and you will find; knock and the door
will be opened for you'" (Luke 11:9).
We will
also keep in mind that prayer also includes being
present with God and listening for God's guidance.
It's more about the silence than the words.
With all
that in mind, the children will be learning about prayer
and Jesus' teachings about prayer. Our teacher for
the month is Deborah Gelpieryn.
As I
mentioned during the Semi-Annual Meeting, we are at the
point in our attendance that we need to split our group
of children and have two classes each Sunday -- one for
the younger elementary and one for older elementary
children.
Thank
you to all who volunteer each month to make the teaching
ministry what it is here at Suquamish.
Teens
The
teenagers are looking forward to serving as mentors for
the upcoming Conference Confirmation Camp to be held at
Pilgrim Firs in April. Emma Floyd, Cami Maston,
and Blythe Peterson will serve as mentors, leading small
groups through their activities for the fourth time.
Thanks,
girls!
