Chairs in the Sanctuary??
Many
folks have noticed the new chairs in the sanctuary and
wondered how they came to be there.
There’s
a simple explanation: the choir found that three or four
pews which they were obliged to use were sometimes too
big or too small. They were hard to fit in the space and
difficult to position so singers could see the
accompanist. Since it is very helpful to the
congregation to have the choir facing them during the
hymns to lend singing support, that fact was also a
consideration.
The
choir got together as a group and did what any other
group in the church can do: they decided what they
wanted to do, created a plan, and submitted it to the
appropriate church boards.
When it
was approved, they collected funds from choir members
and purchased new seating for the choir. Twenty chairs
were bought because the pricing situation made it less
expensive to purchase twenty rather than the maximum of
fifteen the choir expects to use.
There is
more chair news. United Churches in Olympia sent a
notice that they had some used upholstered chairs for
sale. A group of members got together, submitted a plan
to the Trustees, went and inspected the chairs, and then
collected money to buy some of those chairs for Stuart
Hall. They should be arriving soon.
Enjoy
the new seats in both places and remember: you can
gather a group and submit a project dear to your heart
to the church Governing boards.
