Kids 'n Youth

by Debe Nelson

What's New This Fall?

Sunday School and Youth Group will begin their fall themes and activities September 11.

Young people in 7th and 8th grades will meet with Bert Jackson in Debe's office for their activities after the Children's Message during Sunday worship.  A new curriculum from Heifer Project will be the fall focus for this age group as well as the younger kids. Stillwaters Environmental Center also has a great deal to offer, and we plan to participate in as many of their offerings as time allows.

The Elementary School children will be using "Read to Feed" materials from Heifer this fall.  The curriculum is interactive with hands on activities including computer based lesson plans. Kindergarten through 6th graders will continue to meet upstairs using the Courtyard and the Art Room after the Children's Message during Sunday worship. Teachers will continue to be responsible for one month's lessons and activities.

Senior High youth will also be using their traditional space in the corner of Rainbow Room. Their leaders -- Deborah Crews, Leah Floyd, Kelly Raber, Claudia Stuntebech, and Debe Nelson -- have great things in store this coming year.  We will go on a series of retreats with a little different focus this year.  Also, the retreats will be open to all senior high youth and their mentors.  We will explore our own spirituality while observing and learning  about other faith traditions. Some retreats will include a trip to another faith community with a great deal of time spent outside.
