Life InfluencesJonnie Ulmer and Barbara Stuart

Jonnie Ulmer

by Barbara Stuart

The person in the church who has influenced me most  is Jonnie Ulmer.

Being a long-time member of this church has given me the privilege and pleasure of knowing so many wonderful people.  As I look back, there were many who inspired me over the years -- and many who still do.

As I thought about who today do I look up to, it's Jonnie Ulmer.   Her courage in facing pain, the wonderful sense of humor, always able to laugh.  Her caring for each and everyone of us -- young and old.  Her eagerness to know and better understand how God works in this world.

We all know so many who never allow a new thought to disturb them or who think to pray only for themselves.  Jonnie prays for us all.

Jonnie became a nurse in the early 1940's.  She lived through the Japanese bombing of Hawaii and cared for the victims of that war.

Eventually she moved to Suquamish, joined our church in the 1950's, and now is still here most Sundays.  Always supportive of all we do.  I hope to be as gracious as she is when and if I get to be 91.
