May 15th -- The Beebes

"Welcome from the land of cloudy weather,"

All week it has been fairly hazy and cloudy, Sunday is no exception. Weep not -- it is still 85-89 degrees. I don't know how it does that down here and I just finished 2 weeks of a Weather Unit in my classroom. Must be a third-grade issue. Next week is the Oreo Cookie writing project as we are officially in that period where the kids' heads are just about full up and all the cute stuff I do gets a "been there done that reaction."

This past week we read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and did the pizza dough recipe challenge.  The kids had to write down a recipe with everything in order and correctly.  The challenge was that at the end of the week I drew a recipe from a hat and whatever it said to do... I made it.  Fortunately I drew a recipe that didn't get the 4 cups of flour mixed up with the 2 Tbs. of salt.

When I make the dough, I adopt the good old Julia Child technique and falsetto voice.  (The one I used to get Sissy to take a bath when she was little).  Well the boys in the class were stunned and kept muttering about the "girl" voice.  So I asked the boys whether they had a problem with girls -- a touchy question in 2nd grade.  There was a moment of silence and Alejandro Panizo piped up, "We don't have a problem with girls Mr B.  We have a problem with YOU being a girl."  It brought the house down.

The pizza dough came out great, and the writing project as a whole went very well.

Quiet week on the home front. The girls are slowly packing up all the knickknacks, and we watched "Because of Winn Dixie" at the movies. So it's on to Oreos and 5 more weeks of school.

Carrie GentileFrom Carrie Gentile...

My dear friends,

Colorado had surprised us with snow in May!

I attended the Soulforce protest on Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs.  It was quite a moving experience for me.  I met lots of nice people.

The best part was the opportunity to visit with Pastor Tom, Summer and Jennifer, and Vickie and her daughter Natalie.  It was like being back at a coffee hour at SUCC.  Oh how I miss those Sunday morning coffee and friendship get-togethers.

I was also happy to see the Hills and Frank Iuro and to meet AJ. I also had the opportunity to meet the Hills' son Troy who lives here in Denver.

Tom shared with me all the wonderful new things that are happening back in Suquamish.

Soulforce plans another protest next summer in Colorado Springs, and I plan to attend and hope some of my Suquamish friends will too.

On April 4, 2005, my grandson was born -- David George Hackett the second.  He is a welcome addition to our family.

Kyleigh and Jessica both got braces two weeks ago!  They are doing quite well with them.

Hope all is well...maybe I will get to Washington next summer.

Love and blessings to all,

Carrie M. Gentile
