This Month's Profile
Gary Hunt

When you walk into church on Sunday and smell the coffee brewing, you know Gary Hunt is there.  Gary gets to church at 8:30 am every Sunday to make the coffee for "happy hour."

Let me tell you about Gary Hunt.  Gary is a true Northwestern native.  He was raised in Oregon and went to elementary school and attended Cleveland High School in Portland.

After graduation from High School, he joined the Air Force where he worked in radar maintenance.  He was in the Air Force for four and half years.

In 1971, Gary married Judy and they had four (now grown up) children -- Danny, Andrew, Kenny, and Holly.

Gary had one of those jobs that many people envy, the kind of job that enables you to go to sea every day and still be home every night.  He worked for the Washington State Ferry service for thirty years, retiring with a Captain's rating.  He told me that driving the big boat was exciting, especially when coming into dock.

Since retiring Gary has had an interest in Tai Chi and teaches a Tai Chi class every Friday at the church.  He told me how their ancient exercises can strengthen muscles and help with maintaining good balance.

Twice a week Gary meets with some "old buddies" for breakfast at a favorite diner.  These meetings are important for supplying food and conversation, and Gary enjoys both.

Some of Gary's retirement time is spent helping Judy with the housework.  He admits to being a very good dishwasher and kitchen cleaner, but also helps out with vacuuming and dusting.

Gary has been attending Suquamish UCC since May 2003.  His wife Judy and his late mother-in-law, Myrtle Stewart, attended this church for many years.  Gary really enjoys the people of Suquamish UCC, and appreciates that the church is progressive and more "open" than most churches in our area.

Because of Gary's efforts we have coffee every Sunday.  Next time you see him you might want to thank him for this very valuable service.

Thanks, Gary!!  We're glad you're here.
