Messy Faith
by Carole Ann
Norton
Anne
Lamont in her new book Plan B, Further Thoughts on
Faith writes that the opposite of faith isn't doubt,
but certainty. Certainty is clear and organized.
Certainty is in charge.
Faith
is messy. It expands and contracts. Sometimes it
cracks altogether. The great thing about messy faith is
that it is repairable. Mine is patched, plastered, duct
taped and nailed.
I
think faith that has been repaired is stronger than
faith that has never been tested. My faith is messy,
patched and repaired but stronger than ever!
