Away From Home

Bon Bini from sunny Korsu!!

We are buried in a stretch where I teach for 4 weeks without a day off.  Oh the horror.  The Veenstra's -- Carolina, Nick and Hank -- are here and it seems that swimming in February is a bit of a novelty to them.  Go figure.  We climbed Mt. Christoffel (all 375m) on Saturday and spent the rest of the day snorkeling at Playa Knip.  We spent most of Sunday recovering from Saturday at the Hilton Beach resort.

You may recall that I almost croaked on Mt. C. in August -- it is amazing what a difference losing 20 lbs. and being here 6 months (and being 12 degrees cooler) makes on a person.  I actually was able to speak in complete sentences at the top on this trip.  It was 85 degrees but there was a nice breeze and that makes a huge difference.

The Veenstras have that Dutch thing going, and Carolina can lay on the Spanish pretty well, so it is amazing the things we are learning.  It is very convenient to finally have someone tell us what our utility bills have to say.  They also are doing a great deal for the business at Bakerij de Zon (Bakery of the Sun) where apple flaps, croissants and almond tarts are a favorite.  They also brought about 80 lbs. of books, thanks to the efforts of Beebe, Roberts and Bryan PLLC.  It was like Christmas all over again and my room is trashed as I try to fit all the books into my curriculum.

Anna and her buddies Lizzie and Mikayla Ribeiro, and Deborah Chong are practicing for the Talent show next week in my room.  They are singing "Tomorrow" from Annie.  I want to cry but I think it will throw them off.

Beebe FamilyWe also celebrated Anna's birthday for the last time on February 19th.  She had about 6 different celebrations based on visits of grandparents, aunts and the arrival of presents at various times.  Birthdays are a big deal down here.  Everyone congratulates the other family members on the birthday -- Bon Pabien.

Hope all is well up North and if anyone sees Christine Josok give her a big kiss for me -- she'll know why.

Ajo, te mayan

Keith
