Victoria Bower
(aka Vicki Bower)
by
Hilda Maston
She can make a computer dance, sing, and do everything
but the dishes. She is Yvette Victoria Bower, known to
us as "Vicki." She is married to Doug Daman.
Vicki was born in California, a daughter of Navy
parents. They were soon moved to Seattle when
Vicki was just two years old. She attended
elementary school and went to Queen Anne High School for
two years, before it was closed down. After Queen
Anne High School closed, she finished up high school and
graduated from Nova Alternative School.
After high school Vicki worked at the Pacific Science
Center in Seattle where she started as a sales clerk and
later became the assistant manager of the gift shop.
She also joined the Navy Reserves for six years.
After her first child, Natalie, was born, Vicki she went
to work for Safeco Insurance Co. as an accounting clerk,
so she could have more normal work hours and have more
time to spend with the baby.
In 1991, shortly after Natalie was born, in order to
find more affordable housing, Vicki and Doug moved to
Poulsbo. Then came a long term of commuting.
Doug also worked in Seattle, so Doug, Vicki, and Natalie
all commuted together for eight years.
For eight years she worked days and went to North
Seattle Community College at night. She earned a
degree in Computer Programming and started working as a
programmer for the same company, Safeco Insurance.
After her second child, Zachary, was born, Vicki started
tele-commuting (still working for Safeco Insurance), so
she was able to have more time at home with her family.
Vicki and Doug grew up in the same neighborhood in
Seattle -- Magnolia -- and went to all the same schools
from elementary through Queen Anne High School.
Doug was a year older, but they knew each other casually
through mutual friends during school, but never dated
during that time. They were thrown back together
after high school through those same mutual friends and
started dating. They dated for eight years before
Doug finally asked Vicki to marry him.
Eleven years ago, Vicki and Doug were looking for a
church to get married in. They visited several
churches in the area, but really liked the Suquamish
United Church of Christ because of its warm and friendly
atmosphere. Rev. Dick Kroll married them in 1993
at Suquamish UCC church. They drifted off for
awhile, but eventually found their way back to our
church.
She and Doug joined the church three years ago and have
both been active members since.
Vicki and Doug have three lovely children, Natalie, 14
years, Zachary, 5 years, and Sam, 4 years.
Vicki is the technical editor of the Link (this
newsletter) and her skills and sense of humor are a real
boost to the Newsletter team! Thanks, Vicki!!
Vicki is a very busy lady with her full time tele-commute
job, keeping up with 3 kids and doing all the technical
work putting our newsletter together... including the
printing, folding, and labeling!! In addition,
Vicki has several hobbies. She likes sewing,
candle making, scrap-booking, and playing the piano,
mostly classical music.
Vicki, we're so glad to have you as part of our church
family.
