Renewing Spirituality
by Frank Iuro
I don't
have a soul.
I don't have a spirit inside of me.
And I don't believe people who say that I do.
These may be statements that cause some concern.
Don't fret. I have no problem whatsoever with these.
In fact, I rejoice in them.
A confusing concept for me has been the notion of: "When
I die, my BODY goes in the ground; my SOUL goes up to
heaven; so … WHERE AM I ?!?!?"
You see, I don't HAVE a soul … I AM a soul (and I HAVE a
body!)
There are moments in life when the spiritual realm
touches the physical plane. The point of
intersection is like a doorway, which allows the essence
of spirituality to be contacted. These doorways
are recognizable because they are infused with
aesthetics and a sense of awe and wonder. It is in these
moments that I feel renewed.
To experience awe and wonder is something unique to a
spiritual being. To appreciate beauty is a gift that
only spiritual beings have been given. These are not
components of the PHYSICAL body, although there are
physical reactions and feelings that accompany them.
These are the moments when we extend past the physical
plane and touch the realm of what it means to exist as a
spiritual being.
The
opening of these doorways between the physical and the
spiritual may seem to occur as random chance, but they
are constantly accessible. It just depends on when
I turn the key. Because such a doorway can BE
anywhere and IS everywhere.
- A
fiery red-orange sunset over the water
- The
delicate lacework of veins running through a leaf
- The
morning mist hanging a few feet over the ground
- A
tiny ant carrying a large crumb of bread
- The
constant, but ever-changing sound of waves lapping
the shore
- The
infectious sound of laughter
- The
peaceful face of a loved one sleeping
-
Harmonies and melodies that wrap around your head
- A
brilliant rainbow stretching across the sky
- The
geometry of a city skyline
- The
glowing coals deep within a campfire
- Any
experience that seems to take your breath away
When I
look at the world with a sense of awe and wonder, when I
appreciate the aesthetics all around me, I experience
life AS a spiritual being. I AM a soul.
