Sally Nelson

by Hilda Maston

Sally Nelson has been a very busy woman. Since she joined the church in 1960, she has held many important volunteer and paid jobs.

Let’s go back to the beginning…

Sally was born at the hospital in Bremerton and went to school in Eglon, Kitsap County.  In 1964, she married Glenn and they had two sons, Roger born in 1965 and Mark who was born in 1977.

The family moved to Poulsbo where they built the family home on a 10-acre plot.  While the boys were growing up, the family raised cows, horses, pigs and chickens.  Sally didn’t say whether these animals were profitable or not, but the boys enjoyed them.  During this time, Sally worked part-time.  Along with her church work, she worked at Martha and Mary Nursing home as the activities director.  She also did some volunteer work there.

For nearly 10 years in the ‘70s, Sally worked as a volunteer church treasurer.  She also taught Sunday school where her favorite classes were the 4th and 5th grades.

When Rev. Dick Kroll was hired, Sally acted as volunteer director of Children‘s ministry.  In 1981, she served as assistant to the minister.

In 1984, she was offered the job as a "paid" treasurer, a position that she has held until today.

Beside all this work Sally has had time for some other things.  She loves to sing, and she has sung with the Bainbridge Chorale and has done some solo work at our services.  She also enjoys playing pinochle and was Bazaar Coordinator for several years.

Sally loves to travel.  She has been to China, Hawaii, and Mexico.  She also has visited her father’s family in Sweden on several occasions.

Sally has and continues to be a hard-working and faithful member of this church for over 40 years and has enjoyed her home and family life while she served the church.
