Away From Home

This section features those of our church family who are traveling, vacationing, or living in temporary situations.

Beebe familyFrom the Beebe Family:

Curacao is an island in the Caribbean but has a South American feel as it is close to Venezuala, yet is run by the Dutch. My 2nd grade class reflects the island's diversity with 23 students from Curacao, South America, North America, Europe and India. We speak English, Dutch, Spanish and Papiamentu -- not in that order. The faiths are Chrisitian, Jewish, Hindu and Islam. American ex-pats will celebrate Thanksgiving with dinner on the beach at sunset but we also celebrate Diwali (Festival of Light), Hannukah, Sinter Klaus (Dec. 6), Christmas, and many other holidays -- including Durch and Antillean holidays.

I am teaching 2nd grade at the International School of Curacao, in Willemstad. Michelle is a teaching assistant in my class. Keyla is in 7
th grade and Anna in 4th at ISC. To move and change careers has been much harder than we expected. We are only just now settling into our new home and starting to look for volunteer opportunities here. The messages from Helga, Virginia, Tom, Bert and others make us terribly homesick but also remind us of our goals and our obligations to others. We have room for any who stray our way and Sunday we imagine ourselves sitting in OUR church in Suquamish.

Ajo (Ay-yo)--te mayan ku dios kay (Goodbye until tomorrow god willing)
