Phyllis Hart
by Hilda Maston
Let me tell you about Phyllis Hart, a
member of this church since 1996.
Phyllis was born
in Brooklyn, N.Y., and spent most of her school years
there. Soon after graduation from high school she
married Robert Hart. They lived in Waterford, Conn., as
Robert was in the Navy Civil Service there. Phyllis
went back to school and earned her teaching credentials.
She taught school for 25 years, mostly sixth grade.
Phyllis and
Robert had one son, John, who lives in Seattle. After
the Harts both retired, they moved here to be near their
son and grandchildren, Tyler and Melanie. They also have
a great-granddaughter named Miro Zayn.
Phyllis and
Robert loved the Northwest but also loved spending the
winter in their home in Florida. They drove down every
fall, a trip which took ten to twelve days. They were
married for over 50 years.
After becoming a
widow, Phyllis has been busy in many organizations. She
is a member of the Eastern Star, the Retired Teachers,
and the Neville Auxiliary of Children's Hospital. She
volunteered at Poulsbo Elementary and Suquamish
Elementary, where she tutored in math and reading.
Phyllis also makes time for hobbies, which are painting,
cooking, reading, crocheting and fishing!
Phyllis learned
about our church from her neighbor, Ann Austin. Phyllis
was pleasantly surprised when she first visited.
Everyone was so friendly, open and inviting.... a very
pleasant atmosphere that she had not experienced in
other churches. She has served the church on the Bazaar
committee, often hosted at coffee hour, and belongs to
Dorcas.
There you have
Phyllis -- wife, mother, teacher, volunteer, and fellow
church member.
