Away From Home
This is a new feature to hear from our
church family who are traveling, vacationing, or living
in temporary situations, such as the Beebe family in
Curacao, and Chelsea Forkner, living and working in
France. Some of our college youth who are living
and studying away from home are Steven Balkus and
Elizabeth Maier at the University of Washington.

It's cool to hear that everyone is still thinking about
us at college. I discontinued going to SUCC when I
was 14, but it definitely had a big influence on my
life. Youth group with Steve Old Coyote was such
as amazing opportunity. We went one time to a
first Sunday at a Samoan church in Seattle. I
think about that a lot. It was a really positive
experience. Everyone was on their feet singing,
and the pastor was really old, and then we ate Samoan
food at a potluck lunch outside. I hope the kids
there are still doing things like that.
I am almost graduated from The
Evergreen State College. I have become interested
in Political Economy especially. In the past year
I have realized the need for Universal Health Care, and
I am figuring out ways to work for it right now. I
also write for the school newspaper sometimes. I'm
really enjoying my time in Olympia; I love its
progressive nature. It has pet parades and
welcomes the salmon back to the rivers every year.
That's about it. Hope you are
doing well too. We won't be around this Christmas,
so I'll miss the pageant, :(

I think this is a great idea. I can't really boil
my life down to a few lines at this point and time, but
I shall divulge some words of wisdom, haha! "Each
day I arise to walk with the kings and queens of the
artistic universe, and each day I learn more and more
that the human race truly knows nothing." Hope
that's what you're looking for, because that is all I've
been thinking for the last few months. If you
would like something different, just let me know.

Shout Out from UO!
Oregon is awesome, the people are great, my roommate is
great, my professors are great, the food was great... a
little old now, can't wait to someday have my own
kitchen! I'm taking 17 credits, Writing, Math,
Psychology, and Philosophy. It's a lot of work,
but it's getting done. I think when I'm not in
class and not sleeping, I'm probably doing homework.
But weekends are usually a good break. So far
everything's great; I miss home a little, especially the
view from my bedroom. I used to see the beautiful
water, and now I look directly into other student's dorm
rooms! I've made a lot of friends, but definitely
miss the old ones. An important fact about
University of Oregon: Our football stadium was voted the
loudest stadium of all college stadiums!
Love Always,
Michele
