What's Happened &
What's Happening . . .
Thank You...
To all my wonderful friends at Suquamish UCC
Church --
For twenty-seven years that Dan and I lived
in Suquamish, this church was at the very center of our lives. How
wonderful it is to have this wonderful relationship continue.
I am very appreciative of the beautiful
Prayer Shawl you made and sent over to me. It has brought me many
times of comfort when I needed it most. Friends, faith, and memories
are surely a great source of strength in this difficult time. Knowing
that you remember and care about me is a real comfort to me. You are
all "Angels of Comfort," and I send my deepest thanks.
With Love,

Women's Book Group
The Women's Book Group hosted author Margaret Doyle at our October 27
meeting at the church. Margaret's novel, "The Fisherman's Quilt,"
inspired an enthusiastic turnout and a lively discussion. Her almost
autobiographical novel of transformation is set in the fishing port of
Kodiak, Alaska. Margaret told us how the book took shape and showed us
her journals, a quilt, and a photograph, all used in the creation of the
story. She shared with us how she realized her ambition to write and
how she self-published this book. Her next book will be about
education in a Catholic girls' school.

Enrichment page.
Annual Retreat
Creating Peace: One Day at a Time
The theme for the SUCC Annual Retreat at Pilgrim Firs this
year was "Creating Peace one day at a time."
As part of that theme, Jeaneane Hill talked about her
experience of finding out that her son was gay, and how that affected her
and her husband's lives. It eventually led them to an organization
called SoulForce.
The mission of SoulForce is to end the spiritual violence
perpetuated by religious policies and teachings, against gay, lesbian,
bisexual, and transgender people. They let their actions be guided by
the principles of relentless, nonviolent resistance as taught by Mahatma
Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr. If you would like to learn more,
check out their website at www.soulforce.org.
Jayne Peterson led us all on a guided imagery to help us
find our "safe place." A place of peace from within.
And then there was the simple beauty and peace of the
outdoors to enjoy with activities such as canoeing, hiking, and the
traditional youth game of flashlight tag. Oh, and then there were the
inside games as well, such as the traditional game of Trivial Pursuit.
Teens against the adults on Friday night, and men against the women on
Saturday night. All in all it was an enlightening experience, and lots
of fun as well.
