As Trustee, Moderator, on the Deaconate,
and as Maintenance Coordinator, Dan Willett has been
helping in keeping all parts of church life on track.
Dan was born in Minnesota, where he
got his education. He graduated from the
University of Minnesota, and started a career as shop
teacher in Industrial Education that lasted 26 years!
Dan married Helen in 1944, and soon
after moved to Chicago to work in the Engineering Dept.
of the Quaker Oats Co. In 1954, they moved to the
Magnolia area of Seattle, where they were active in the
Congregational church there. In 1977, they moved
into the Lemolo neighborhood of Kitsap County.
They were pleased to find our Congregational church in
nearby Suquamish and became active involved members....
helping with every fund-raiser and serving on many
boards and committees.
After moving to Kitsap County, Dan
worked with his father-ini-law in a hearing aid business
for the next 35 years. He and Helen raised three
children, two boys and a girl. Bruce, the oldest,
is a contractor and lives in Chelan. John works
for Park City, Utah, where he lives. Their
daughter, Jodi, has provided Dan and Helen with two
grandchildren, Becky at U.W. and grandson Sterling in
high school. Step-grandson Conan lives in San
Diego.
A few months ago, Helen became ill.
She was found to have Alzheimer's disease and is now
living at Martha & Mary Health Services. Dan
reported that the church and the support group he
attends have been a great help in making it possible to
cope with his wife's illness.
